I have never had a sane conversation with my dad. Most times, serious conversations take either go down a funny road or a inconclusive one.
My mother- has always been my listener. She listened to me when I told her I wanted to pursue Economics and not Science after class X. She listened to me when I told her after three years that I didn't want to pursue Economics further. She listened to me rant about the possibilities of a liberal arts education, the value of it and my decision to come and study development at Azim Premji University.
All conversations with amma, have always been ones where she's done some research on the area of my interest, even though she, or for that matter, pretty much my whole family have no clue about the humanities world.
So when I told amma about my inclination to study further and my aspirations of working with the government through the possibility of pursuing the civil services, she listened again but being a realist laid bare before me all the arguments about this subject. She told me (like she's always done before) all of the possibilites, even the one's that I didn't want to hear.
And Pa just told me the lines that I wanted to hear :)
In all probablity, it was not thought through.
However, for all its worth,
It brought a smile to my face and made my day :)
I feel blessed to be blessed with such a set of incredible parents.
I can't thank you enough, dear maker of the world!
